VW Group Considers Selling Parts of its €35 Billion Real Estate Portfolio The portfolio comprises thousands of apartments, production facilities, and a football stadium; in times of economic crisis, every asset at VW is being scrutinized. Decades ago, the "economic miracle" enabled the automaker to expand and created a need for housing for many new employees. Today, the group owns nearly 9,500 apartments in Wolfsburg, units that are no longer rented exclusively to VW staff. Many of the buildings resemble those owned by Vonovia, Germany’s largest landlord: they are mass-market apartments simple and affordable. According to the group executive board's confidential internal restructuring and strategy plan, the VW Immobilien GmbH portfolio is valued at around two billion euros, and Volkswagen is now considering a sale due to the poor economic climate. It is unlikely that the entire package of the group of €35 Billion will be sold, as the net value remaining after deducting costs and loans would likely be significantly lower, and a sale would entail follow-up costs. Nevertheless, the move demonstrates that any assets not immediately essential to the core business will sooner or later have to be sold to cover the costs of restructuring, pensions, debt, and the company's transformation.alex avoigt: It’s official...
It’s official: VW is Cutting 100,000 Jobs On Thursday, the VW supervisory board unexpectedly agreed on a cost-cutting plan: a total of 100,000 jobs are to be eliminated worldwide. According to Volkswagen, another 50,000 jobs will be cut across the group in the coming years including management positions on top of the already and previously agreed 50,000 job cuts. The Volkswagen Group currently employs around 663,000 people worldwide; in a few years, that number will drop to just 560,000, and I expect further reorganizations, plant closures, and workforce reductions. The plan also stipulates cutting the VW model lineup by around 50 percent and reducing product complexity by approximately 75 percent. The focus is to be placed on the most attractive vehicles. Additionally, the aim is to achieve "leaner management structures" and "shorter decision-making paths." Those measures will lead to weaker demand and that will lead again to reduction in work force and plant closures. This is merely the beginning of a very painful process, and an end is nowhere in sight.alex avoigt: Porsche is selling its management...
Porsche is selling its management and IT consultancy, MHP, to India's Tata Consulting. Sales of subsidiaries within the VW Group are continuing. Porsche had held a stake in MHP since 1998 and completed a full takeover just over two and a half years ago only to sell the company now. This demonstrates that it is a sense of urgency and a drive for liquidity rather than a coherent strategy that are fueling the business activities of Porsche and the VW Group.alex avoigt: Lets think about Cybercabs...
Lets think about Cybercabs: Tesla has built a massive plant in Austin to produce 2 million Cybercabs annually with a current production runrate to date of around 125,000 units. It is a vehicle without a steering wheel, designed to operate exclusively as a fully autonomous robotaxi yet some claim the whole thing isn't real and will never actually happen. Thousands of Cybercabs are parked on lots in several states waiting for their services but people claim they won't be put in service. Hundreds are driving though states in the US and people claim Tesla is doing this for what exactly? Just for fun maybe? Tesla employees are driven around by the Cybercabs fully autonomously but people do their best to ignore it. Now the Cybercab launch day is announced and there are still people who don't get the memo. You must live in an alternative reality to overlook what is playing out right before our eyes! This reminds me of the time Tesla was ramping up Model 3 production and many said the car would never be delivered. It is quite amusing to watch the intellectual gymnastics the world goes through to somehow convince itself that what is without any doubt happening is not actually taking place at all. They've dome it in the past and they do it again. In 2013 - 2014 the Tesla stock increased by 700% In 2020 the Tesla stock increased by 800% What do you think will happen to the stock when the world realizes that Tesla Cybercabs are a reality and will change the world of transportation?alex avoigt: If, as an investor, you believe...
If, as an investor, you believe that the market price of a particular stock has anything to do with rationality, you are badly mistaken. Like a broken clock, the market may occasionally- and purely by chance - be right at a certain time, but that has nothing to do with rationality. Stock markets have never been rational, and they never will be.alex avoigt: AI data centers are no carte blanche...

Porsche & Piëch Families push for Rapid, Decisive Restructuring of VW Group Concerned about the future of its core investment, major VW shareholder Porsche SE is pressing for swift decisions to resolve the conflict between management, trade unions (IG Metall), and state stakeholders regarding job cuts and plant closures at Volkswagen. "The Group is at a historic turning point," Hans Dieter Pötsch, head of the Porsche and Piëch families' holding company, stated on Friday. He emphasized that everyone must act responsibly in the interest of the company and its competitiveness. "The longer decisions are delayed, the greater the problems become." Business and economic imperatives must take precedence; "everything else must take a back seat." "It is imperative to reduce existing overcapacities, substantially cut back cost structures, and structurally improve the Group’s ability to make decisions and take action. Porsche SE, as the majority ordinary shareholder of Volkswagen AG, therefore supports the Group Board of Management and its proposals. The goal is competitiveness. There must be no taboos in this process; otherwise, Volkswagen risks falling permanently behind in international competition," adds Dr. Johannes Lattwein, Member of the Executive Board for Finance and IT. In late June, VW CEO Oliver Blume’s strict cost-cutting plan had failed to gain approval from the VW supervisory board due to opposition from employee representatives and the state of Lower Saxony. I can only agree with Putsch, there is no time to loose and delaying it makes it worse.alex avoigt: BMW is cutting 8,000 jobs...

As long as there is no well-developed plan for disarming 🇮🇷 Iran's roughly one million soldiers—whether from within, from without, or through a combination of both- I doubt that a successful regime change in Iran has any chance. Regime change cannot be achieved through airstrikes, nor through bombing the ruling powers, since new rulers can be appointed faster than the 🇺🇸 US and 🇮🇱 Israeli forces can bomb them. The destruction of military centers, complexes, and headquarters may look impressive on video, but in a decentralized organization like Iran, it doesn't solve the fundamental problem of a large regime that would do anything to stay in power and has prepared for this. The targets for strategic strikes will quickly run out, but the destruction caused by Shahed drones in neighboring countries is very unlikely to. Even worse the ability of the regime to carry out a massacre of the population if the Iranian people go to the streets to demonstrate or demand freedom is remains fully intact. As a result the political pressure on Trump to end the bombing will increase. The US and IDF will successfully reduce and weaken the Iranian regime's military capabilities in the region, but regime change, which should be the actual goal of this war, is only possible if the US and/or IDF invade with ground troops. Given the political and economic pressure, this is highly unlikely. IMO, Trump will do what he always does: quickly lose patience, declare victory, and chicken out.
